From the recording Rock. Paper, Tree
Lyrics
“Forever for a Day”
If I could live forever for a day
What would I say to this world?
Forever for a day seems like a long time
Like a misty dawn slowly unfurled
I want to leave a small mark on this world
I’ve thought this many times before
Just a little note to stretch across time
Before I sail from this shore
So I’ll sit by the fire and write to myself
Words out to paper, telling what I’ve found
Forever for a day is not as long as I thought
As the sun comes up and goes around
The story of the moon is clear to me now
As it changes yet stays the same
13 different moons can come and go
The 14th is the first one again.
So have my years came and went
And I have been lucky to find
The cool dark voice inside my old heart
The calm clear light in my mind
As I write my story it is clear to me
How I can send it on
I’ll store it in a box for the chosen one to find
After I am long gone
One more thing must go with this tale
The key to open up the lock
For when it is found, it will not be by chance
The key will be carved on a rock
So now I lay the papers in the small box
Set the key face up with them too
Sealing up the box with fresh candle wax
Only one thing left to do
The box goes into it’s shallow grave
In the edge of the old rock wall
A tree so high to mark it’s resting place
Now I have done it all
So now I’ll live forever for a day
And one day someone will find
The box with the story and the key
They’ll have to hear it in their mind
