Lyrics
“Jack’s Tale”
My days will end all alone and
I’m ok with that
I’ve lived, I’ve fought, I’ve loved and lost
I’m happy where I’m at
This city near the water wide
Where no one knows your name
High above the streets I sleep
The lights are all the same
My name is Jack Ripley and
I fought in a far flung war
Desert sand turned black and blood red
On a distant shore
When I came home I took some time
To heal and find my way
Three long years I lived nowhere
Front wheel led my way
The iron horse came home one day
And my Lady I did find
A quiet time one summers eve
Our hearts and souls combined
It brought me peace and children too
I worked hard each day
I knew this town would be a good life
Here with our hearts to stay
We had two kids and raised them well
A girl and a boy
Taught them to live and love this life
In their hearts grew joy
In time they grew and left our nest
But never far away
They brought their kids home to me
We watched them laugh and play
One spring my Lady got the news
No one should ever hear
Six months was all that was left
At best maybe a year
We buried her on New Year’s Day
Part of me went into the ground
I think of her many times each day
Especially when the kids are around
I spent a year on the road
Not sure what to do
But I knew I had to be around
And start my life anew
I watched the young ones grow tall and strong
And helped their parents grow
Taught them of my Lady dear
So her heart they would know
So now I live in a building tall
And call a city home
All I need is real close by
But I can still roam
I see the kids and their kids too
In the sun and the moon I see my wife
My name is Jack Ripley
It’s been a good life for me
