“The Key”

Two old men, staring across time
What can this really be?
Now known to each other, bonded by a rhyme
How did they find the key?
Looking deep inside, where few chose to go
Quiet still place in the mind
How did they get there? What did it show?
Who knows what they would find?

Life is but a moment in the river of time
As the wheel turns slowly by
We come and we go like a sinner to their crime
Not wondering why time seems to fly
We can’t slow it down, though we may try
Life moves us right along
It’s gone too fast in a blink of an eye
Like the key buried in this song

Jacob:

Jack lived his life a lot like mine
I’m glad I can see him now
As the sun sets on my elder days
He gives me hope and how
To know I’ll be back again and again
Learning and living each time
But living a good life, joy mixed with the pain
Each day is now a gift sublime

Jack is the first to pick this lock
And understand how time does flow
Now he knows why we live by the clock
And where our life does go
There are more, still yet to come alive
But Jack as found the way
The ones long gone can see and strive
To send their message each day

Jack :

Now I know that I once lived far away
By that old rock wall
I was Jacob and he is me to this day
We rise when we learn how to fall
These days I’ve lived make more sense to me now
Found the answer I want in this dream
Now I must write and try to show how
But so strange does the answer seem

Like a summer sun our good can rise
Like a Fall storm so can the bad
We need to see beyond the lights in the skies
And all the misfortunes we’ve had
Find the still place where thought slows down
Like waves beating on the shore
There lies a dream that lives in a dream
But also a door to much more

So the two old men staring across time
Are really one and the same
Like the flash of green on the needles of the trees
Out of long winter’s cold they came
The lock is severed with the finding of the key
The old is now with the new
Tale told and believed, with more to be
Found as the hope does renew

So Jacob and Jack are the first but not the last
To look at themselves across time
The lock has been opened, the die has been cast
To be told in a song and a rhyme
In each life a true love was lost
But felt each and every day
What will be the vision? What will be the cost?
As the dream fades away.
